Richard De Steno's Games

Back in the 90s, Richard De Steno, a blind programmer, created and sold various text-based games for DOS. Now, he's in the process of converting these excellent games over to Windows, and is making them available for free.
This page allows you to download the Windows games as they're released.
Note: You will need a screen reader to play these games as they're not self-voicing.

How To Install These Games

All games are compressed as ZIP files. After downloading the game of your choice (see below), you will need to extract it's ZIP file to an empty folder (you can put them anywhere on your hard drive.) Once that's done, you can, if you wish, create a shortcut that points to the game so you can put it on your desktop or Start menu. In Windows XP, here's how to do this (the process should be fairly similar with other versions of Windows):

  1. Bring up Windows Explorer or My Computer.
  2. Move to and go into the folder where you extracted the ZIP file to.
  3. Move to the game's executable file. For this example, we'll assume that we're going to create a shortcut for Atlantic City Blackjack, whose executable file is called acbj30w.exe. Now, from the File menu, choose "Create Shortcut".
  4. At the bottom of the list, a file called, in the case of our example, "Shortcut to acbj30w.exe" will appear. I recommend renaming this shortcut so it says something more useful, such as "Atlantic City Blackjack" (you can do this by pressing F2, then typing in the new name).
  5. Now that you have your new shortcut file, you can cut it to the clipboard for pasting on your desktop, or wherever you want on the Start menu.
